Book Lovers' Club records, 1927-1965.

Collection contains Club records including constitutions, letters, notes, minutes, financial records, information on related organizations, newsletters, and miscellaneous items. Two typescript constitutions (1927) detail the Club's organization and purposes. Letters and notes (ca. 1958-1965) to the Club include letters of solicitation and thanks from various organizations and individuals. A bound book of handwritten and typescript minutes (1945-1958) inscribed "The Book Lovers' Club of Charleston, South Carolina" includes a list of Club presidents and officers, a roster of members, and miscellaneous loose items. There are additional handwritten and typescript minutes (1962-1964) on loose sheets. Financial records include receipts for flowers, party supplies, and books, a bank deposit book (1964-1965), and a book recording the payment of membership dues (1947-1963). Miscellaneous items include programs for the Club's annual meetings, a poem (1958) of tribute to the Club, a schedule of meetings for the year 1959, blank certificates of achievement for creative writing, and issues (1960-1961) of the newsletter "Verbal Level" (published by the New York Society for General Semantics). Materials on other women's organizations include photocopies of typescript information (1957) on the National Council of Negro Women, and the announcement and agenda of a meeting of the Executive Board of the South Carolina Federation of Colored Women (n.d.).
